The City of Kewaunee and KCEDC recently visited the State Capitol to discuss the potential advancement of the “Kewaunee Harbor Project”. During meetings with Senator Frank Lasee, Rep. Joel Kitchens and members of the Joint Finance Committee, discussions focused on restoring Kewaunee harbor infrastructure including necessary seawall repairs, the boardwalk and restoration of the lighthouse. The response we received was very positive, but much work remains to address the community’s harbor issues. Most, importantly they recognized the critical seawall saftey concerns as well as the potential economic impact to the fishing and tourism industries. The City of Kewaunee and KCEDC are currently collaborating on the redevelopment of the key waterfront redevelopment property (former Hamacheck site).
