The list of winners at the fifth annual Wisconsin Professional Wine Competition, hosted by the Wisconsin State Fair on June 25, reads like a Who’s Who of top wineries in the state. Yet it’s the top prize, Best Overall Wine that everyone jumps to first. For the second year in a row, that honor went to Parallel 44 Vineyard & Winery in Kewaunee, this year for its Petite Pearl and last year for its La Crescent.  To receive this kind of an honor on two all Wisconsin grown grape wines was equivalent to winning back to back Super Bowls for Parallel 44!  Parallel 44’s sister winery, Door 44,  also received Best in Show Sparkling wine honors for its Bubbler sparkling wine.  This was also the second year in a row that Door 44 received this honor.  Parallel 44’s long standing popular wine, Frozen Tundra Original, also received Best in Show honors.

“What I find most gratifying is that we received the most medals of any winery for wines made from Wisconsin grown grapes.  That’s because in the end, our goal is to produce world class wines that just happen to come from Wisconsin,” said Steve Johnson who is the winemaker and co-owner with his wife Maria Milano.
