Thank you to everyone who sent letters of support for the Kewaunee County / Bug Tussel Broadband grant application. The County received well over 100 letters of support.
KCEDC is proud to be a part of The Kewaunee County Broadband Study Committee; we continue to hear from our business owners and residents of the need for improved internet connectivity in the County.
In less than a year the committee has really came along way and the County is poised to see some expansion of fixed wireless broadband services in 2020-2021. The County has partnered with Bug Tussel Wireless, in pursuing a Broadband grant through the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin. On September 4, 2019, Governor Tony Evers announced that the PSC will award up to $24 million in Broadband Expansion Grant funding in Fiscal Year 2020. Bug Tussel has participated in several of these grants before and has a proven track record of community partnerships in the goal of moving broadband access forward. Grants are to be awarded in March.
As Phase I of the project, the County and Bug Tussel are seeking grants to build seven new towers in Kewaunee County, which will provide broadband access to the townships of Carlton, Casco, Franklin, Red River, and West Kewaunee, as well as Mischicot in Manitowoc County. They will be seeking approximately $315,000 for each tower. Bug Tussel will provide a portion of the required funds and the grant will provide a portion. Additionally, Bug Tussel is seeking support from the county of $960,000.
