In late March, the City of Kewaunee acquired a significant piece of lakefront property from KHS, USA, Inc. Vacant since 2003, the 3.5 acre “Klockner” site has been a challenging, blighted property prime for redevelopment. Acquisition and redevelopment of the site is an integral component of the city’s comprehensive and waterfront redevelopment plans.

The city began demolition, salvage and remediation of the former manufacturing facility in July of 2014.  The City of Kewaunee has entered into a collaborative agreement with Kewaunee County Economic Development Corporation  and Arrowhead Strategies, LLC to identify sources of funding to improve the harbor infrastructure. Once the site is clean and ready for necessary improvements, the city  can work with KCEDC and consultants to identify developers for the property.  The long-awaited redevelopment of the “Klockner” site will eliminate blight in Kewaunee’s downtown, increase tax base and employment, as well as add potential to attract new business.
