The Kewaunee County Economic Development Corporation (KCEDC), Executive Director Jennifer Brown announced today the creation of a Regional Economic Strategy Team in an effort to proactively respond to the closure and decommissioning the Kewaunee Power Plant.

The Kewaunee Power Plant Economic Strategy Team is led by KCEDC and UW-Extension with representatives from, Dominion, local municipalities, neighboring economic development and planning organizations, WEDC, BayArea Workforce Development Board and New North. The team has already begun critical dialogue focused on short-term and long-term community and economic planning strategies.

The Regional Economic Strategy Team will meet on Monday, February 11, 2013 to coordinate and discuss opportunities for retaining talent in the local and regional workforce. In addition, the team will address the long-term community impacts of the plant closure and specific opportunities for funding economic development planning.

The goal of the Regional Economic Strategy Team is to explore any and all economic development opportunities that may support the community, region and Dominion as the process of closure and decommissioning approaches and begins. Creating and strengthening positive partnerships with local and all regional stakeholders will assist in building a healthy economic future for the impacted and surrounding economies.
